You probably have a lot of stuff on your computer that you'd hate to lose. Pictures of the grandkids, email you'd like to keep, all kinds of things.
So what are you going to do when it's gone?
Seriously. Bad things happen to computers. Yes, they are incredibly reliable nowadays, but you can lose everything in a flash. If you are lucky, you can pay somebody a few hundred dollars to recover your stuff, but there's no guarantees with that either: it might all be gone, period.
You can store stuff on CD's, but that's slow, isn't it. And then you need to find a place for the CD's, and it's easy to forget to do the backup, so pretty soon that's all out of date..
Here's a solution: Mozy. It's free if you don't have an awful lot you need to store, and only $4.95 a month if you have more (that's for home use; if you have a business it's higher priced). You download the Mozy client (Windows or Mac), decide what you want to store on their servers, and it does the rest. You can set it so that it just does that every day without your thinking about it. If you ever do have a computer disaster, all you need to remember is the email address you gave to Mozy when you signed up and a password you created at the same time: there's your data, waiting to be brought down to your new computer.
Don't take chances: back that computer up today.
