My wife and I are at odds about the Stone Forge (90 Paramount Dr, Raynham - 508 977-9830). She thinks it's great; I'll only go there again under protest.
We've been twice now: once to spend the gift certificate that came with the purchase of our home here at Oak Point, and then again last week on our wedding anniversary. Yeah, you are right: we sure could have made a better choice than that.
Both times we ended up in the Tavern rather than the restaurant. The first time was by choice; this time we arrived to find the restaurant tied up with a function. We should have just left and gone somewhere else, but as the tavern was nearly empty, we decided to stay.
That hadn't been the case on our first visit. That time, the place was jammed and noisy, and the service was slow. We were particularly annoyed that our waitress lost our order and had to reenter it after we had waited forty five minutes watching people all around us get their dinners served.
But this time, no, the place was mostly empty. And yet, we still had an inattentive waitress who seemed to always be somewhere else. Isn't the first rule of waitressing to come back a few minutes after serving to see if anything was missed or awry? Nope - I had to go hunt her down to get some lemon wedges my wife wanted for her fish.
My wife really loved that fish. It was a very nice looking piece of salmon with a vegetable garnish; she ate the whole thing, which is quite unusual for her. I wish I had enjoyed my chicken marsala half as much: drenched in way too much garlic with slightly overdone chicken pieces.. I barely touched half of it. However, my wife took a forkful and to my surprise said she liked it and wanted to take it home: she'd definitely eat it even if I would not.
So there we are: one thumbs up, one emphatically down. I grudgingly agreed that we'll try it once more, this time in the restaurant. We'll see if it's any better there.
