We may have found our new favorite Italian restaurant. A number of other Oak Pointers on the shopping shuttle bus had recommended this to Linda, and today we happened to be in the neighborhood, so we stopped in for a late lunch. Johnny Macaroni's doesn't look like much from the outside - really, the building isn't very attractive at all, but inside is much, much different: clean, nicely decorated, we felt good the minute we walked in.

Linda ordered entirely from the Appetizer section: Minestrone soup ($2.95), Garden Salad ($3.95), and Eggplant Parmigiana ($6.95). I ordered Chicken Rice soup ($2.95) and a Chicken Parmigiana sandwich with fries ($7.95).

The soups were excellent. My chicken rice had fresh carrots and mushrooms; very tasty. Linda's Minestrone was equally fresh and good. As a refreshing change from what we've been served at other restaurants recently, her salad was fresh, colorful and had a nice mixture of light and dark lettuce. Even the croutons were fresh and light - looked to be made from the same tasty scala bread that was brought with our soup. Linda also appreciated that the salad was served in a bowl large enough to mix in her dressing without spilling it all over the table.

Our main meals made us both happy. Linda immediately remarked upon how much the sauce was like that her Italian Grandmother used to make: thick and delicious. The french fries were light and not greasy, though neither of us had room to eat very many.

With drinks, tip and our Oak Point VIP discount, our bill was less than $40.00. We'll definitely go back for more.
