Flowerland Garden Center (50 Wapping Rd - Rte 106 - Kingston MA 02364 781 585-4595 )

We first went there because we got a 10% "Oak Point" discount card in the mail. I don't know why they just didn't use our Gold VIP cards, and I don't know whether you can still get that discount from them (doesn't hurt to ask), but it's a good place to go even without that. Prices are fairly reasonable, selection is good: it's not a giant place, but big enough.

What impressed us most was the friendliness and helpfulness of most of the staff. On our first visit, the place was jammed because they had Paul Parent broadcasting his radio show live and answering questions from shoppers. In spite of being very busy attending to Paul and the crowd that wanted to talk to him, the owner still found time to patiently answer questions Linda had: we knew he had plenty on his plate, but he didn't for a minute make us feel hurried or that he had anything in the world to do but stop and chat with us.

The rest of the staff was equally gracious, and this has become another one of Linda's favorite gardening stops. By the way, this was the only place we found that would let us bring a trash barrel and fill it up with mulch. Everywhere else insisted we either had to get a truckload delivered or buy it by the bag. Very nice, very helpful, good folks, worth the drive (about 11 miles from Oak Point, 20 minutes give or take).

More recently Linda ran into a woman employee who wasn't quite as helpful and did seem more rushed and abrupt. Oh well, perfection is difficult, isn't it?
