The Importance of Your Vote 7/22/2007 Tony Lawrence
According to telephone surveys conducted recently, 10% of registered voters are anti-casino, 50% are pro-casino, and 40% are undecided or don't care.
Unfortunately, the 50% in favor seem to be aware that they are the majority, and a lot seem to have little interest in showing up to vote on Saturday - it might be hot, they have other things to do, it will drag on and on.. a lot of excuses and reasons.
Here's the thing: the 10% aren't making excuses. Almost all of them will be at the vote. If a large number of pro voters just don't bother because they think that enough other voters will show up, the anti's could carry the day. Good news for them, but a travesty for the town that obviously wants this to happen.
Please: I know it's hard, I know you have plans, I know it's Saturday, I know that even with ever effort being made to make this quick and painless it will not be quick and painless enough - I know all of that but still: your vote is needed.
There will be buses. If you can't do the bus, you can call 508 923 0215 for a ride. There will be water. The IBEW is donating 200 "bag" chairs to Oak Point voters so you won't have to stand.
There are only two articles that need to be voted on. The Moderator has says he intends to get both of these done as quickly as possible - he knows this is difficult for everyone.
If you are undecided, watch the Selectmens's meeting Monday night on Comcast or come to the High School and be there in person. I think you'll probably end up standing with the majority who recognize how critical this is to Middleboro's future.
If YOU don't vote, Middleboro may lose this opportunity forever.
There's a lot of disinformation being spread by people who don't want you to attend. THERE WILL BE TENTS! You won't be standing in the hot sun. This will NOT be an all day affair! There will be water and misters to help keep us cool. See other articles here for more information.
