    Some of the Facts

I suppose I owe Mark Balanger some sort of apology. I say "some sort", because he isn't going to get much of an apology, but I have to at least say something.

Here's the thing: he and the rest of the anti-casino crowd were here Thursday night debating Adam Bond and Wayne Perkins. I bet they (Mark and company) wish they had never come, because they got beaten soundly. They were weak, Adam and Wayne were strong and confident.

I asked Mark a question, and basically it was why his "some of the facts dot com" website only publishes facts that suit his agenda. I don't apologize for that, but I asked it in a very aggressive and overly angry way and really didn't need to do that.

Mark admitted that he is one sided, that he does only publish his side of the story, and said he feels no obligation to do otherwise.

You see, that's what ticks me off. They have these signs that say "Get the Facts - casinofacts.org". To me that suggests that I could get "the" facts there - in other words, all the facts, not just the facts Mark likes. Notice I don't say his facts are "wrong", but omitting facts is a form of lying: he's leading people to a conclusion they might not come to if they were able to read more "facts".

People have said, "Well, it's his website". Right, it is. If he said "Come here to get the reasons why I think a casino is no good" (well, I guess he'd need something a bit catchier), I wouldn't have a problem. But "Get the facts" has an implied promise of at least a pretense of "fair and balanced", and that's why Mark ticks me off enough to turn me rabid.

Adam Bond smoothed things down by reminding us all that we do need to work together after this is all over. Point taken, but I still don't like misrepresentation.

Oh well: they came, they were outgunned, they went home with their tails tucked between their legs. Oak Pointers generally don't seem to like the anti-casino bunch very much.
