If tonight's Selectmen's meeting were a Visa Check Card commercial, Pat Rogers would be the guy who brings everything crashing down by trying to pay with a check.
Or in Pat's case, by arguing that nothing needs to be bought right now anyway, and if something ever does need to be bought, he doesn't want Ruth Geoffroy selling it to him.
A person sitting near me was taking notes.. he wrote "The Cheese Stands Alone" as Pat launched into his typical "We're moving too fast here" speech upon the suggestion that the Selectmen schedule a planning session with the re-formed "Resort Committee" (nee "Casino Study Commission" and then was it the "Resort Casino Commission"? Something like that).
Pat thinks it's far too early. Plenty of time. What's the hurry? Poor Pat: people are always rushing him, aren't they?
The other Selectmen and Marsha were much more polite than I would have been. "I see your point", and "I understand what you are saying, Pat" prefaced every retort that proceeded to make it plain that they only saw his point in the same way you see a fly that has landed on your picnic table. Yes, I see that: SWAT!
I'm not sure what Pat's issue with Ruth is. He seemed to be leading up to some suggestion that she shouldn't be a public figure as this planning progresses. Perhaps he was hinting that he would make a better point man? May such a day never come is my fervent hope. Involving Pat in any position of power in this effort would be like adding a drag anchor to an Indy 500 car. Not only will it assure that you'll likely never get to the finish line, but you'll make a mess of the track too.
I had to leave early because I'm old and I'm tired and I wanted to be home with my wife who just wasn't up to going tonight. That's OK, I probably couldn't have taken much more anyway.
