Casino Update 7/7/2007 Tony Lawrence
While at the rotary last night doing a pro-casino rally, I had a chance to talk with Selectman Adam Bond about some of the concerns people have expressed to me about Middleboro being too "greedy" - reports in the press imply that the Selectmen may kill the deal by asking for more than the Wampanoags are willing to give.
Adam explained that yes, they are trying to get a better deal; specifically a guaranteed minimum AND a percentage of casino revenues. However, they aren't demanding anything specific - in fact, the draft document presented to the Wampanoags is blank in those two areas. In other words, this is an area of negotiation, not unyielding demand.
I asked when we expected to hear back on the results of negotiations; he said they hoped it would be Monday (July 9) and that would be reported at Monday's Selectmen's meeting (at the town hall at 7:00 PM if you want to attend).
By the way, Adam also said that he's be more than happy to come to Oak Point to answer any and all questions about this or anything else on our minds.
