I recently wrote to Don Smith and offered to turn over this website (name and contents) to the Oak Point Social Department. "Turn over" as in give freely, no strings attached.

I should tell you first out that Don isn't interested at this time. He doesn't think enough of you use computers, but he does recognize that is changing and that an "on-line" presence is becoming more important. He said they might do something like this next year.

I certainly hope so. As someone sending me a post just said today: "I think your idea for Oak Point Community News on line is a great one. Many folks don't get out to pick up their Newsletters or perhaps don't read areas that don't seem interesting to them. At least this is an easy way to get news out to everyone. "

Obviously Oak Point could do a far better job at this than I can. Some things might change - I have content here that they might not want and I allow advertisements to run without charge. Some of that might change, but overall it's obvious that they can do far more than I can.

I started this site because I wanted it - because Oak Point didn't have a community based site, I made one. I think it would be simply wonderful if they would move in this direction. I'd hope that they'd keep it open - that all Oak Point residents could contribute freely whether it is minor gripes, pictures of hummingbirds or whatever. I think it would be wonderful if we could have an on-line forum, too. Add Social Department news and announcements to that and it's a winning combination!
