Shutters July 21, 2007 Tony Lawrence
We didn't order our home here at Oak Point: we were getting ready to do that when someone else couldn't sell their present home and backed out of the deal. We liked the location, and bought that home instead.
We didn't like the shutter color though. Those folks had selected green shutters, as shown in the picture at left. We felt black would look better (you can see a picture of our home with black shutters at My Wife's Gardens).
We asked Oak Point if we could swap or buy shutters from them; we could not. We checked with Home Depot and Lowes, but neither had exactly the right size. We also looked into and bought Dupont Krylon Fusion spray paint, which bonds to plastic. We did use that to repaint the small shutters on the kitchen window, but it was a fair amount of work to prepare and also to paint, so we decided to abandon that idea. The results were fine, it was just too much work.
Finally we called Marlette directly (ours is a Marlette "Lincoln" model). They were happy to sell us three large sets and one small for the front of the house for approximately $160.00. That's not cheap, but when we compared it to the labor we faced for painting, we decided to do that. We left the back of the house green; maybe we'll get those changed some other year.
