I started this site on July 4th, 2007 because nobody else had. That is, I wanted a site like this that was strongly oriented toward Oak Point and the people who live here. There was no such thing, so I created this.

I didn't know how popular it might become. Quite a few Oak Pointers don't even own computers, and many of those who do aren't nearly as comfortable and proficient with them as their children and grandchildren are. Wide spread use of computers is still a fairly new thing - it's really only been about ten years since computers entered most homes.

So I had limited expectations. Maybe there'd be a little interest, maybe not. I felt it was still worth the effort even if only a few dozen folks read it.

Well, it's three weeks later now and we've left the "few dozen" figure way back in the dust. I'm sure there are still a few computer using people at Oak Point that haven't heard about this yet, but I don't think there are many of them left. We've grown, and we've grown quickly.

We even have readers from outside Oak Point. I had a nice note from someone on Plain Street who somehow became aware of the site, and of course potential homeowners researching on the Internet are also finding us. We're growing, and I think we'll keep growing for a while at least.

You can help: if you need ideas, see Things I'd like to see here. Your neighbors want to hear your shopping reviews, see your garden pictures, hear your opinions on Middleboro politics and so on. Does your club need a place to post news and other information? Here is that place. You don't need to do anything more than send me an email (be sure you tell me you want it published) - it's very easy.

Some statistics for those who like the numbers: 347 unique visitors so far, 5,649 pageviews (7.35 average per visitor), 12 minutes and 50 seconds average time on site.

We are still growing..

I was talking to someone today who pointed out something I hadn't thought about..

She had given me something to add to "Spottings" and I kind of half apologized saying "A lot of Oak Pointers don't have computers, and a lot who do still don't know about this site".

She said "Yes, but the people who DO read it make sure their neighbors know about things posted there - this will reach more people than you think."

Good point..
