I've read a small stack of books this past week and amazingly enough, I actually enjoyed all of them. Usually if I have a pile like this to go through at least one or two get tossed half way through as too unininteresting or too poorly written, but this group was pretty good.
The curious coupling of Science and Sex, Mary Roach
I had been looking forward to this because of reading her "Stiff" and "Spook" books. I will say this is probably not quite as good as those, but it still is fun and worth reading.
Madams, Ministers, Playboys and the Battle for America's Soul, Karen Abbot
This is about prostitution in Chicago and the famous Everleigh Club. It's a great tale of corruption and equally corrupt reformers. Well written history.
The World as a Stage, Bill Bryson
Thin (208 pages) exposition of what is really known about Shakespeare. Fascinating historical details throughout.
My Family's Journey Through a Century of Biology, Bernd Heinrich
I didn't think I'd like this: I'm not much for sentimental animal stories. This wasn't that at all: it's a gripping mesh of science, history and personal relationships. Great read!
My Hunt for Boston's Most Notorious Killer
I've read other "Boston Strangler" books, but this is the most recent and I think the most interesting. Hint: Albert Desalvo probably didn't kill anyone.
