Adopt an Athlete

As you may know, Middleboro has had to make drastic cuts in school sports programs. Parents are now required to pay user fees if they want their children to participate. Simply put, some parents cannot afford these fees.

Yes, we know that money is coming from the Indian Resort. It's not here yet, and we need money NOW.

Yes, we know that Middleboro needs better management of its finances - those issues have to be dealt with, but families and children need help NOW.

All we need now is your promise. We don't want your credit card today, you don't need to go write a check right now. Just fill out a simple form and click "Pledge". That's all we need today - it will take you literally seconds.

Our Goal

We want to raise enough pledge money to allow all athletes to play this year at least. If we can, we'd like to get a head start on next year's programs also.

We're looking for pledges, not checks

We don't want to put your money into a big pool for someone to distribute. We ask that you pledge whatever you can afford, from $10.00 to $350.00 (the user fee for two children) now. After the pledges are collected, needs will be identified and someone will contact you directly asking you to honor your pledge for a specific need.

You aren't throwing your money into a pot to be spent who knows how. You will be contacted for specific needs. We feel that's very important, and critical to the success of this program. If your pledge is small, it will be bundled with other small pledges, but will always be for a very specific need.

Who is OakPointCommunity.org and why is it hosting this page?

One of our committee members runs this website. It is not related to the management of Oak Point Homes in any way; it's just a site for the homeowners who live there. We could set up a new website, but it's quick (and free) for us to do it here.

We do hope that Oak Point residents will be as generous with this as they have been for other programs, but ALL Middleboro residents (and other interested people) can pledge here.

How much are the fees?

I hope I got this right: $175 per sport, $350 maximum per athlete for three sports, and a cap of $450.00 per family. Not a tremendous amount of money for most of us, but inconceivable for some families.

We do not have much time

We have very little time before school starts, and we need to resolve these financial issues even sooner than that.

This is all very rushed, but the need is urgent. Pardon the rough, unprofessional appearance: we just don't have the time to do better. We don't have a fancy logo, we don't have pictures of kids playing football. But the need is real, and you can help.

Thank you for your help.

P.S.: Please help spread the word. If someone without a computer wants to pledge, offer to type their info in for them (it's fine to leave email blank). We do not have much time!

You can tell people they'll find this page at "middleboroathlete (no spaces) dot org" - remember, "dot org", not "dot com"!
